"Big Monkey"  Illustration

This illustration was a personal project I made on my own time. Using photoshop brushes I decided to illustrate an apocalyptic scenario. I wanted to create a fantasy world of the most terrifying situation I could imagine.

 

My first step to this illustration was to create the evil. I wanted the monster to appear as an evil ruler with a giant army to back him up, who’s only desire was to destroy everything in his path. To design all of this chaotic piece I had to use various brushes along with photoshop textures, so even the tiniest parts of the illustration were heavily detailed. The protagonist in this piece was very small compared to the monster so the choosing the right view was necessary. Not only did I want the hero to be visible I wanted him to be the center of focus. To do this I decided the place the hero deeply in front of the monster and used high light and dark contrast.  

 

This project was important to me because growing up i’ve always been a huge fan of comics and superheroes, and now I could create my own. One of the inspirations for this project came from the movie “Avengers: End Game” when Captain America is standing alone against a whole army fearlessly. I wanted to show that same emotion, a small piece of hope against an unstoppable evil.
