"Mental Models" Magazine Spread
This is a magazine spread project I started in my "Graphic Design 2" class and later redesigned for my portfolio. For this project I had to find an article online that I thought was interesting and try to show it off in a creative way. I decided on this article which was about mental models and their affects on your brain. James Clear wrote this article, you can see the original at https://jamesclear.com/feynman-mental-models
My goal for this project was to organize and visually enhance the article so the reader will stay interested while reading the entirety of the work. Organizing the large amount of body text took the use of InDesign’s margins and columns tool, character and paragraph styles, text wrap, and grid lines. In order to catch the eyes of viewers I then needed to create a colorful design. The design needed to relate to the article so I decided to illustrate a background that visualized the profusion of activity constantly moving throughout our brains. My next step was to make the spread more interesting by using pull quotes from the article and finding creative ways to place them in the article.
I found this article to be very entertaining with very useful information that can really help people. I tried to view this project as if it were my job to get as many people as possible to read it.
